Where We Work
UN Women has a regional outlook but currently is concentrating programming to those priority countries identified in its Regional Strategy. Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Kiribati have been selected as priority countries for special and intensive programming for the UN Women Pacific Sub-Regional Strategy 2008-2013. A second tier of priority countries includes the Republic of Marshall Islands and Fiji. These countries were selected because they require particular focus and have greater needs in advancing women’s rights and gender equality.
These countries will be included in a number of initiatives designed to accelerate progress on implementing national commitments to gender equality. South-South exchanges will be promoted amongst these countries to catalyse information, experience and knowledge sharing.
